Some people think that you should take your rugs to a professional company to have them professionally cleaned, but most rugs can be cleaned at home just as easily. Deeply cleaning your rugs helps them look fresh and smell fresh. However, we recommend that you have your rugs washed by a professional company once a year, this helps keep the rug alive.

HOW TO CLEAN LARGE AREA RUGS?

Vacuum your rug for daily cleaning. However, the point to note here is that your vacuum cleaner should not be set too high for handmade carpets. If you sweep at a high setting, you may damage your carpet.
You should aim to deep clean large rugs 2-3 times a year. Here's how to do this.

Step 1: Vacuum the carpet as normal.

Step 2: Take the carpet out and shake it vigorously

Step 3: If the carpet is too big to wobble, hang it over a railing or clothesline and beat it on the back to remove the dirt.

Step 4: Hang the carpet or lay it flat on a driveway and spray water until wet, but not saturated

Step 5: Use a suitable detergent to clean the carpet. Be careful not to use a detergent containing too many chemicals. Natural detergents do not harm your carpet.

Step 6: Wash the detergent by hand or with a brush, moving it in the direction of the carpet knot.

Step 7: Rinse the carpet to remove the soap

Step 8: Hang the rug and let it dry completely

This cleaning method is suitable for most rugs made from natural or synthetic fibers. But some rugs like sheepskin, cowhide and jute need a different approach.
Pro Tip: Some small rugs are machine washable.

KEEP OFF WITH SHOES

A great solution for preventing dirt and grime from getting into your large area rug is to avoid walking across it with your shoes. Your shoes walk around in all kinds of terrain and environments that are teeming with dirt, germs, and bacteria. Each step you take in your shoes transports all that grime from the outdoors into your home and your area rug.

This goes for your children and pets too. Sticky hands and dirty paws should be monitored and cleaned before allowing them near large living room rugs. Taking these precautionary measures can help avoid a mess before it happens.
